a long time coming

I'm so so happy with this shawl.  My favourite I've made to date.  It took a long long time.  Not so much in the crochet, but more in the motivation.  It's repetative, but when I set my mind to it I made good progress. I ran out of yarn a couple of times and so had quite a process to get more, as I dyed all the purple stripes myself.  Yep, I totally did.  That's what you call hard core crocheting

Many thanks to Lou for donating her valuable time to the crochet cause... she was my photographer for Sailor's Delight's photoshoot.  Our location was Docklands.

Pattern:  Sailor Blues Shawl by my favourite hooker ever, Lynn Sibley.  Worked up in 2ply this shawl is beautifully drapey and squishy.
Yarn:  The black is Bendigo Woollen Mills Classic 2ply, the rest, who knows.  I picked up a couple of bags of 'remnants' at BWM, and assume it's wool as it took the dye.  I dyed all these mini skeins into the lovely colours you see.  I had a hell of a time when I washed this prior to blocking.  The dye just kept seeping out.  The Google told me to soak it with some vinegar, which I did and hey presto - no more running dye!  huzzah!
Hook:  4mm.  Dudes, I lost my favourite hook ever sometime in the making of this shawl.  I don't even know where to get another.  It was the most beautiful stainless steel hook ever.  No crochet hook can compare.  I miss you, little friend.
Ravelled here.  My version is called Sailor's Delight, at the suggestion of the lovely Lisa of Tea and Craft.

  6. This is gorgeous. I love shawls. I've made myself a purple one and a gray one in the almost two years I've been crocheting. I checked out the link to the pattern and I think I may get it--is it written in British measurements?

  7. That is a large shawl, it would have taken me forever to finish! I love that you pushed through the repeating stitches and yarn shortages, and then finished this beauty! I'm also very impressed that you dyed some of the yarn, it is even more a product of your creativity now. It looks fantastic on you as well, it wouldn't surprise me if you get tons of compliments on it.
