Step into the Sunshine

When I was a child, my mum played this album over and over, to the extent that these songs now form part of the soundtrack to my life (even though I am in no way, shape or form religious).  Here is one particular track from that album that I thought appropote for this post:
Anyway, why is this song appropote?  I thought it was a nice segway into the exciting news that I've been given a Sunshine Award!
Actually, in recent weeks I've been nominated for the Sunshine award, not once, but twice!!   So a HUGE Thank you to Ashley from Geoknitology and Natalie from Marigold's Loft.   If both of you had not nominated me, you would definitely be on my list of nominations below ^_^

The Award comes with the following rules:
1: Thank the blogger(s) who nominated you.
2. Answer the 10 questions about your favourite things.
3. Nominate 10 blogs to receive the Sunshine Award and let them know they've been nominated.

The questions:
1.  Favourite animal: The Kitten of course!
Just try to not fall in love with her.  Just try.
2.  Favourite number:  Don't have one.
3.  Favourite non-alcoholic drink: Coffee.  I swear I don't need it, I just really like it.
Plus, coffee makes your hair blow sideways while you fall asleep standing up.  Fact (via).
4.  Facebook or Twitter: Neither, I really don't need to know what you're doing every 5 minutes, and vice versa :)  I prefer PINTEREST!
Makes me laugh everytime (via)
5.  My passion:  I dunno, I love A, The Kitten and my family obviously.  Otherwise, crochet really is my passion.  It's something I do every day, and spend countless hours thinking about and researching.  I don't know what I did with myself before I crocheted, my life must have been quite sad indeed!
One of my favourite things to do is just browse my project page to see all I have accomplised.  Sad much?

6.  Getting or Giving: Both please.  I don't like things to be uneven.  See Big Bang clip below.
7.  Favourite Pattern: Well, I haven't seen them all yet, but the one I have made the most is the Dahlia Shawl.
Check it out here
8.  Favourite day of the week: Everything seems a little bit better on Friday.
If only it actually was Friday today (via)
9.  Favourite Flower: Not really a flower type of person, though I have an awesome cyclamen that just refuses to die
10.  Favourite Country: I've not been outside Australia, so that one will have to do - though it really is quite nice, why don't you visit?

And the 10 blogs I am passing this award onto, in no particular order (actually looks like they've come out in alphabetical order, which is lovely!) (I've also tried to choose blogs that I have not nominated previously for awards in attempt to spread the love around evenly):
Go and read all those blogs, they're brill!

Thanks again Ash and Nat -xox-

Oh stop it you!!

Aw shucks, Lisa from Tea and Craft gave me an award!  Thank youuuuuu!  I love Lisa's blog, and it's so so so lovely to think she likes me too ^_^  I've never met Lisa, but I feel we are kindred spirits (just pop over to her blog and read her 'About Me'.  Grandmotherly much?? :D)

This award also comes with the following *rules* :

  • Thank the person who gave you this award. That’s common courtesy
  • Include a link to their blog. That’s also common courtesy — if you can figure out how to do it
  • Next, select 15 blogs/bloggers that you’ve recently discovered or follow regularly. ( I would add, pick blogs or bloggers that are excellent!)
  • Nominate those 15 bloggers for the Versatile Blogger Award
  • Finally, tell the person who nominated you 7 things about yourself
Seven things about myself, oh lordy I really don't want to bore you to tears so I'll do my best to keep it short.
  1. I LURVE Crochet (duh).  It's a bit of an obsession.  I have mini-panic attacks about not being able to do all the crochet I want.  What? I've only got ONE lifetime to do all these projects?? Sweet Jesus!
  2. I used to hate cats.  I don't even know the reason why.  I begged and begged my parents for a dog for the longest time.  Now I'm the totaly opposite, and couldn't imagine life without The Kitten *Shameless Plug:  see the bottom of this post for details about how you can participate in Caturday!!*
  3. This is what a gratuitous photo looks like.
  4. I swear a lot.  If you hang around me too long, you will start dropping a lot more F-bombs than you ever have in your life.  It's very contagious.
  5. I don't have my driver's licence.  I'm 28 years old.  Most people find this fact abhorrent.
  6. I don't approve of marriage and/or weddings.  I find the whole topic unsavoury and out of date.  Everything from engagements, to the ceremony to stupid fluffy dresses.  Ugh.  I will never get married.
  7. I got my love of crafting from my mum (didn't we all?).  She used to make everything from our clothes, porcelin dolls and wedding cakes.  But I learned to crochet, and am now teaching her :D
  8. Speaking of teaching crochet, I have two "students", whom I refer to as my Crochet Biatches (R and Ang).  They are my work colleagues, who I encouraged to pick up the hook about 11 months ago.  We now have regular crochet meetings during our lunch breaks, and it tickles me pink to have wonderful friends to be able to chat with about granny squares, trebling, scarves and shawls!  I picked up the hook not knowing anyone else who engaged in the craft, and it's so so important to have people around you to chat with, and for that I am very grateful to have my Crochet Biatch Club.
And now, the 15 blogs I am passing this award on to, in no particular order:
Now, go get yourself a cup of tea and a biscuit, put your feet up and hopefully find yourself a new favourite blog (or two, or three) to read!!

***CATURDAY***
I'm trying to start a *thing*.  I don't really know the rules around these things, but because I love The Kitten so much, I always want to share her awesomeness with those around me!  So, every Saturday will be Caturday at My Grandmotherly Ways.  Every Caturday I will post a picture of The Kitten, and maybe some other feline related stuff.  I will add a widget which will allow you to link up with me, so you too may participate in Caturday and show us your furbabies!! Hope to see you back here on Sat.... er... Caturday!!

Shameless...(and WIP)

Is it shameless to promote something you love? Maybe, maybe not.

A few of my posts of late have been about Skulduggery Pleasant.  I friggin' love that skeleton.  I'm proud to say that I've even roped a good friend of mine into listening to the audio books.  She's become so obsessed in fact that she is listening to it while at work.  At work people!  So if you haven't already, seriously, find this book and read it now now NOW NOW NOW!

The Golden God (ie author Derek Landy) has just posted about a new competition called "Friend Get Friend".  I'm not exactly sure if I am doing this correctly.  Mr Landy tells me to post a 'status update' including the cover and THIS LINK.  It's worth a look - the first book - the first entire book - available in ebook format for download!  GO GO GO GO GO!

So my friends, here is my slightly shameless competition entry *embarassed grin*
Click for freebies!!!
The comp is to celebrate the re-release of the first book with a shiny new cover by Tom Percival.  OMG SP and VC in colour!  Very cool.

I'm still making my way through the audio books... Am about 20 minutes off finishing book 3, then onward and upward to book 4!  Can't wait for the train trip home tonight!  (Sorry Mr Landy sir, I just cannot listen to it at work, I am far too responsible)

Skulduggery:
"You're still upset about that time I made you explode, aren't you? I can tell."
Fact:  there is an episode of Doctor Who called 'The Faceless Ones'.  [fangirl spiel ends here]

Want more books?  Pop on over to Small Things for this week's Yarn Allong!!

And just so I can participate in Tami's Amis WIP Wednesday, a hasty blackberry picture of my WIP:

FIVE ROWS TO GO!!  The next time you see this sucker will be on an FO Friday!  Probably not this Friday though :(

I'm in the middle of a bit of a crisis though... I'm nearly out of beads!  A good friend of mine, my crochet padawan, thinks she has some in the same colour.  We have set up a meet for a bead delivery tomorrow, it's very elaborate, a specific time and place has been arranged.

On the subject of learning to crochet, my friend sent me this email, which I thought was hilarious.  Now why didn't Neo download master crochet skills?

Thanks for stopping by!!

NPH

As if I didn't already love NPH enough, he's gone and done this:
Your fist has touched my heart.

I knew about this episode for so so long, and it did not disappoint!  The perfect amount of cuteness and silliness.  LOL @ Ice King!  (How awesome is Adventure Time btw?  I just love it.  It's my current fave cartoon.  How awesome are cartoons btw....?)

I love that whatever NPH is in these days, he sings!  Even in HIMYM (which I am pretty addicted to... I must say)! (He is also a magician, which is doubly awesome)

I'm very sad that Doogie Howser is not available on DVD.  *shakes fist at DVD gods for not providing me with additional NPH goodies to watch*

Cute lil baby NPH anyone?
And of course, there's Dr Horrible.  I. Love. Dr. Horrible.  I've seen it more times than I probably should admit.  There are too many reasons why Dr Horrible is awesome.  The music, Nathan Fillion, Joss Whedon, Bad Horse.... it goes on.  Check it out if you haven't already.
via (this picture is not representative of Dr Horrible, but NPH is so totally cute here)
And, I found out recently, that he was in RENT.  My absolute all time favorite musical.  I've listened to the soundtrack so many times, it's just lovely music.

So anyways... NPH is awesome.

Generally, I'm pretty addicted to TV and movies.  I like awesome things that aren't too serious, take the piss out of itself/themself or their genre, and is just fun.  When it comes to my entertainment, I really don't like to think too much.

Any suggestions for me?

Internet love.

I just had to post about how amazed I am at the love I am receiving from the internets in relation to my yarny efforts.  It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

I am still a bit amazed that some people are actually following my humble little blog here *waves at followers*.  I wonder how you found me?  And why you chose to stay :)

I love getting comments.  I'm new to blogging, so I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to blog etiquitte.  Should I reply to comments, and how do I do that?  I feel like a bit of a dunce commenting on my own post.  In any case, just assume I say 'thank you' for your comment, and if you ask a question I will certainly endeavour to answer it!

I also feel a bit famous, because some of my favorite bloggers have recently posted on my blog, in particular:
So thanks all for visiting.  I am a bit of an internet stalker, so if you leave a comment for me, or follow me, I will track you down and follow your blog, and probably your Rav account too... (That's not creepy, right?)

Separately, I am super proud of my wedding shawl, so I posted it in the July thread for 11 shawls in 11 on Rav.  I am amazed that I got over 120 'loves' in 8 days!  It's such a small thing, but I certainly feel warm and fuzzy nevertheless <3.
