New Year Resolutions

It has to be done doesn't it?

Rather than being specific about all the things I'm going to do, how much weight I'm going to lose, how far I'm going to run, how much I'm going to crochet, all the new things I'm going to learn, I resolve, for 2013, to do my best to be happy and healthy.

That is all.

Happy New Year

Life’s A Happy Song

Hello 2012!!  My first post for the year!

The last three weeks for me have involved lots of entertaining, eating, being entertained, eating, sleeping, xbox and eating.  Very little crochet, knitting or baking, my usual pastimes.  I have just turned my brain off for the last three weeks and it has been awesome.  Sadly, I return to the daily grind on Monday.

So, I have none of my usual projects to share.   Instead, I'll share with you a random love of mine, the Muppets!   I've always loved them.  I had this poster on my bedroom wall as a teenager:

I saw The Muppets today.  Poor Australia had to wait about 2 months for this to be released.  Boo!

BUT it was sooo worth the wait!  I have not laughed so hard at a movie in ages!  Actually laughing out loud, with tears rolling down my face.

It's such a great story, and obviously put together by people who really love the material.  The jokes were Muppetastic, the songs were Muppetlicious.  It was incredibly Muppety.   Now I adore Jason Segal even more (I Love You Man is another of my fave movies)!  There was also a surprise (for me anyway) appearance from Jim Parsons (who everyone loves as Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory) in the song 'Man or Muppet':

"If I'm a muppet, then I'm a very manly muppet"

You've all seen the trailers  (and probably the movie by now!) I'm sure, the story revolves around the Muppets getting back together.   It left me with a huge case of the warm and fuzzies,  I could easily watch it again, like right now!!  As a matter of fact I've been messing around with Muppet Youtube clips for the last couple of hours.

And while this is my first post for the year, I won't bore you with my list of new year's resolutions, but will share this clip of the song, 'Life's a Happy Song' from the movie (not actually the movie version, but writer of the songs Bret McKenzie with Kermit), which is pretty much the embodiment of how I want my 2012 to be :)

Internet love

What's the best way to say, omigosh somebody gave me a blog award?

How about... somebody gave me a blog award!  The lovely Hazel, of Hazel's Crochet nominated me!  How supremely flattering!

The award goes to a blog you love that has less than 200 followers, and once you receive the award, you then need to give it to 5 people you deem worthy.

I've been madly clicking away trying to find the origins of this pwn award.  Apparently 'Liebster' means 'Dearest' in German (thanks Sweet Williams).

It was REALLY hard to choose who to pass this onto (I'm pretty addicted to blogs...).  Without further ado I am pleased to pass this award to the following blogs which I love to read:
  1. Useless Beauty Designs - I get uber excited everytime I see a new post from Susie from UBD.  She writes about her life with such humour it's difficult not to be enamoured;
  2. Tea and Craft - You know that feeling you get when you think you've found a cyber kindred spirit?  With every post from Lisa from T&C I think, oh I like that stuff tooooo.  She is much more crafty than me though!!;
  3. Sweet Little Stitches - Lynne from SLS is a crochet master, with every creation she shows off, my amazement increases;
  4. Master of a Thousand Things - Certainly a master of both crochet and knitting, Tink makes lovely things and is very gracious with answers should you have any questions!
  5. From now till then and in between - Jarka makes really lovely things, and also says lovely things.  I always love visiting her blog!
So there we have it!  GO VISIT THESE AWESOME BLOGS NOW!!!

FO! I'm a little teapot [cozy].

Well, not really.  I do not consider myself short, but am possibly a bit stout.

Teapot cozies!  So deliciously grandmotherly.  I think mine is swish-o!  I made it to spruce up the office a bit.

When I was feeling down one day, I googled 'how can I be happy' (seriously, I'm not joking).  I read something that said surround yourself with bright colours!  Even though I'm feeling much better generally, I don't think it could hurt to have a bit more colour around :)
'scuse my enormous pile of junk in the background.
Doesn't it just make you want to drink copious amounts of rainbow tea?

Ravelled here.

I think I could have made it a bit longer, my teapot's bum is showing.  Oh well, you shouldn't be looking at its bum in the first place.

The pattern is by Alice from Crochet with Raymond.  She makes such lovely things.  I have already made one of her granny cowls, and I am nearly finished a  mandala to match my happy teapot.

Internet love.

I just had to post about how amazed I am at the love I am receiving from the internets in relation to my yarny efforts.  It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

I am still a bit amazed that some people are actually following my humble little blog here *waves at followers*.  I wonder how you found me?  And why you chose to stay :)

I love getting comments.  I'm new to blogging, so I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to blog etiquitte.  Should I reply to comments, and how do I do that?  I feel like a bit of a dunce commenting on my own post.  In any case, just assume I say 'thank you' for your comment, and if you ask a question I will certainly endeavour to answer it!

I also feel a bit famous, because some of my favorite bloggers have recently posted on my blog, in particular:
So thanks all for visiting.  I am a bit of an internet stalker, so if you leave a comment for me, or follow me, I will track you down and follow your blog, and probably your Rav account too... (That's not creepy, right?)

Separately, I am super proud of my wedding shawl, so I posted it in the July thread for 11 shawls in 11 on Rav.  I am amazed that I got over 120 'loves' in 8 days!  It's such a small thing, but I certainly feel warm and fuzzy nevertheless <3.

Sewing satisfaction

I haven't sewed in a LONG time.

But today I did.  I got back behind my mum's 20-odd year old machine and whipped up this little doozy.

The frame was made for me by a family friend, and I made the material bit, whatever its called.

I am SO proud of myself.  I made a little pocket for the end for all my crafty bits and bobs, pins, crochet hooks, whatever.  In the main it will sit in my lounge room and hold my current yarn and things.  This object now goes toward my goal of beautfying my surroundings by the insertion of colour. LOTS of colour!!
